Metals metals metals- I am passionate about working in metals, and making cool funky jewelry that you won't find just anywhere. The stuff the cool folks want...
I have been Metalsmithing for 20 plus years.
I began learning jewelry techniques and design in New England in '86, back when I was unhireable due to my less than preppy appearance LOL..I went to art school in Boston (SMFA) from 85-89, and spent summers apprenticing for a silversmithing shop in Portsmouth NH.
After graduating from Tufts and SMFA in '89 I spent a year in Providence working for a production jeweler- paying my dues, being an art slave..
Then I escaped Providence to live in Boston one more time for a year and that winter made it clear to me that I had to get some the hell out of the cold and in to the SUNSHINE!
So, I headed for Tucson Arizona, land of Gem shows and incredible weather (trading Boston winters for Tucson Summers...I'll take heat over cold anyday). Tucson has a rich history of metalsmiths and I have learned a huge amount about the craft from my fellow Tucson 'smiths.
I met my Florentine Astro Physicist husband here too. (he was working for the University of Arizona) so then..
Guido _real name_ and I moved from Arizona to Florence Italy (his home town) from 1997- 2000, where I spent many hours restoring our home and studying metals techniques at Italian jewelry schools.
We moved back to Arizona in 2000, Had a kid in '02 and got settled into our desert lifestyle. We enjoy our huge garden and the warm winters of the Southwest, however, we escape the summers here as much as possible- opting for visiting family in New England and Italy over burning our butts.
I create my designs in my fabulous garden studio (complete with a front porch where we kick back and enjoy the sunsets and a glass of wine.Italian of course) The passion I feel for metalsmithing and art is translated in the jewelry I create. A little artsy, steampunk and classic all mixed into a concoction of metals colors and textures..
